Programs in four integrated areas; Instruction, Artist Studios, Galleries and Outreach Education provide arts instruction to students of all ages and backgrounds, artist professional development, and community events that build understanding of the arts.

Courses for beginners, intermediate and professional craftsmen are scheduled on weekends and evenings so working people can take full advantage of them.

Beginning and continuing students will be introduced to a variety of techniques through demonstration. Areas of study include: tools and materials, sawing, filing, soldering, surface textures, fabrication, chasing, repousse, form folding, forging, stone setting, and finishing.

The basic principles of handwrought jewelry construction will be explored with emphasis on use of materials, tools, and processes as they may be utilized in a simple studio setup.

Classes are available for students at all levels of experience and are kept small to ensure that individual attention can be given to everyone

At Southern, studio art majors select a concentration in the fine or applied arts. Studio facilities for ceramics, graphic design, jewelry and metals, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture are designed so that students can explore their ideas in a safe and supportive environment.
